Tourist Places in Shimla


Shimla Tourist attractions:   


Shimla, the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, is much sought after tourist destination of India. Perched in the north western part of Himalayan Mountains, Shimla lures the entire globe with its exquisite nature dotted with lush green hills, scenic landscape, dense forests filled with oak and pine trees etc. Pleasant and cool climate, picturesque sights of snow capped Himalayan Mountains, lush green valleys and beautiful lakes make Shimla a major tourist spot in India. The hill station of Shimla with an average altitude of 2205 m once served as the summer capital of British India. 

The Ridge


 Located in the center of Shimla, the Ridge is an open space running alongside Shimla Mall. It is the place of summer festival in Shimla which attracts thousands of tourists from far and wide. A New Year celebration is also held at the place in grand style. To the east of the Ridge is a large water reservoir which serves to be the main source of water to the entire town of Shimla. 


Shimla Mall Road:



 It is the shopping hub and ultimate hangout spot in the town of Shimla. Filled with several restaurants, cafes, government offices and cinema theaters, Shimla Mall Road is one of most frequented places in Shimla. A huge cinema theater set during by British now conducts several cultural programs and activities.



Christ Church:

 Built in the year1857, Christ Church serves to be the second oldest church of north India. It is a prime place of worship in Shimla and is situated on Ridge road. It is beautifully built in new Gothic architectural style. A clock was added to the tower of the church in 1860.

Himachal State Museum



Also known as Shimla state Museum, Himachal State Museum is home to a large scale collection of sculptures and paintings. Set up in the year 1974, the museum displays the fine collection of miniature paintings, wood carvings, jewelry, traditional cloths, etc. The museum offers the insight of culture and tradition of Himachal Pradesh. Tara Devi temple, summer hill, Kali and Bari temple are some of the many other places of interest situated in and around Shimla.

Best Time to Visit Shimla

 Summer Best time to visit Shimla is September to February and March to June.

March to June:

Summer usually starts around March and ends in June. Hence this is said to be a peak time and so that it is also recommend to make advance booking of your hotel and taxi or cab. Temperature ranges between 15°C to 30°C..

July to September:

Summer These are the rainiest months and Shimla receives the heaviest rainfall and though there is high probability of landslides during this time. Hence these months are not recommend for tourist to visit. 

October to February:

These are the coolest months as Shimla experiences cold winters seasons during this months. This season is also referred as the best time to visit Shimla. The temperature may vary between 0°C to 15°C.    
 

How to reach

By Air:-  
Jubbarhatti airport is nearest airport to Shimla which is around 22 km away from city.
       
By Train
Kalka a small railway station is nearest railway station from Shimla and it is just 1 km away from it.

By Road
The city is well connected to nearly all major cities by Himachal Road Transport Corporation buses and private vehicle.
 



Tourist Places in Nagpur


Nagpur Tourist attraction: Nagpur, popularly known as the Orange City of India, is the winter capital of Maharashtra state. Geographically located in the center of India, Nagpur is home to several places of tourist attractions. 
Ambazari Lake
Ambazari Lake: It is a popular picnic spot in the city of Nagpur. Spread over an area of about 15 sq km, Ambazari Lake offers a beautiful and tranquil place to unwind. Boating in the lake is unforgettable experience for the tourists. Surrounding walking trails offers beautiful views of the serene lake. A beautiful garden adjacent to the lake is another attraction of the city. The garden is filled with many amusement facilities for the children. The Garden is known as Ambazari Garden and is famous for its musical fountains which mesmerize one and all by its amazing display of dancing water to the beats of rhythmic music. 

Dikshabhoomi Smarak: It is a prominent Buddhist monument located in Nagpur. It happens to be the largest Buddhist Stupa in the world. The place where this grand Stupa stands is popularly known as Dikshabhoomi. The place holds historic significance as it is the same place where Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar as a part of his social revolution converted himself and his lakhs of followers to Buddhism in the year 1956. To commemorate this historic incidence, a large Stupa has been built there. It serves to be a prominent place of religious and historic significance and is visited by large number of devotees and tourist alike. 

Maharaj Bag: Enriched with beautiful nature, Maharaj Bag is fascinating garden frequented by a number of tourists in Nagpur. The garden was established by Bhosale rulers. It has now turned in to a beautiful botanical park. The park also houses a zoo where you can spot numerous specious of wild animals. 




Shukrawari Lake: Perched in the heart of Nagpur city, Shukrawari Lake is about 275 years old water reservoir. Also known as Gandhi Sagar, Shukrawari Lake offers boating facility. It is enclosed by stone walls and surrounded by beautiful green covers. A temple dedicated to lord Ganesh is located near the lake. Seminary hills, Dragon Palace temple, Sitabuldi fort and Balaji Mandir are other places of interest located in and the city of Nagpur.  

Fair and Festivals of Nagpur

           Nagpur celebrates many festival of different religion with much fanfare. The city also host many cultural and religious events. Among the popular festivals the city of Nagpur host is the festival of Marbat.  This is unique festival celebrated only in Nagpur city. On the occasion of the festival people make the small statues of an imaginary evil spirits and take out the procession. These evil statues are burnt at the end of procession. It is believed by the people of Nagpur that by celebrating this kind of festival, all evil forces in the city are eliminated. Festival of Marbat also includes other cultural activities like dance, drama. On the occasion women prepare delicious food dishes and show their cooking skills. The festival of Marbat serves to be an occasion where one can have a glimpse of rich culture of Nagpur.
        Maharashtra is known for its large scale celebration of Ganesh festival. Nagpur being a part of Maharashtra is no exception to this. The city celebrates this ten day festival of Ganesh with much pomp and show. Idols of lord Ganesh are installed at numerous places in the city and prayers are held at those places on each morning and in the evening for those ten days. During the festival the city witnesses many cultural, religious and social events being organized in its different part.  
       Dussera is another major festival celebrated in Nagpur with great enthusiasm. On the occasion of the festival people of Nagpur gather together at the Kasturchand Park of the city and witness the fascinating event of lighting up of huge effigies of demon Ravana. The festival of Dussera is celebration of victory of the good over the evil.  On the occasion of Dussera the city of Nagpur also witnesses lakhs of dalit Buddhists coming to  Deeksha Bhoomi from different part of India to celebrate the historical event of Dr. Ambedkar’s conversion to Buddhism with his lakhs of follower way back in 1956. The celebration of this historical event is known as Dhamma Chakra Parivartan Din which falls on the day of Dussera festival.
        On Ram Navmi (Day of Lord Ram’s appearance on this earth) a grand procession  follows the chariot of Lord Ram Lakshman and Sita, the procession starts from Podeshwar Ram Mandir near Railway Station and goes around taking about 25 Km round of the city. The grand procession is joined by more than 100 tabloids which are nicely decorated with live dioramas or otherwise. The festival is being celebrated since many years and is one of the most famous events of the city. A local holiday is announced on the day which already is the festival day for Hindus. People feast on that day and participate in the colorful Ram Navmi procession, which ends after returning of the lords chariot in the temple, usually well past midnight on that day. Ramtek near Nagpur hosts a grand fair during ten days before Navmi when there is a great rush of people visiting Ram Temple for worship. The fair ends on Ram Navmi.

Tourist places in Mangalore


Mangalore, a coastal city of Karnataka, is known for its lush green surrounding hills, fast flowing rivers merging into the Arabian Sea and large number of coconut trees perched along the shore of the sea and Mangalore city serves to be administrative headquarters of Dakshina Kannada district is home to several places of tourist attraction.


Mangalore Beaches: Beautiful beaches of Mangalore serve to be the main attractions of the Karnataka region.  Tannirbavi Beach is one of most fascinating beaches in Dakshina Kannada district. It offers amazing views of sun set. Surthkal beach is another worth visiting beach of Mangalore. The beautiful and clean beach is known for its serene environs and is visited by a number of tourists round the year. Mangalore beaches serve to be a perfect picnic spots to spend weekends and holidays.


Sultan Battery: It is a watch tower believed to be built by Tipu Sultan. It was built to keep watch on warships entering into Gurpur River. The majestic structure of the watch tower presents a marvelous look to the tourists. Although the construction of Sultan Battery was meant to be a watch tower, the massive structure gives the look of mini fortress to the visitors. This historic structure is mostly in ruined condition; even so it serves to be a main attraction of Mangalore.


Kudroli Gokarnath temple: It is prominent place of worship in Mangalore. Built in 1912, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple was built by Shri Narayan Guru, a sage and social reformer of Kerala. Apart from the shrine of main deity, the temple also houses other smaller shrines. It also contains the beautiful mural paintings depicting the incidences from mythological stories.

There are many other places of attraction situated in and around city of Mangalore. Light House Hill Garden, Kadri Hill Park, Bejali Museum, New Mangalore Port and Milagres Church are some of them. 

Tourist places in Manali



 Perched at an altitude of about 1950m, Manali is a beautiful hill station in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located just 40 km away from Kullu and is abundant with flora and fauna. Blessed with pleasant climate and exquisite natural surroundings, Manali serves to be a major tourist destination in the state. There are many place of tourist attraction located in and around Manali.


Beas Kund: This serene lake is situated just 21 km north of Manali. It serves to be an originating place of famous Beas River. The lake also holds religious significance as it is believed that the sage Vyas once used to take bath at the water reservoir. The place serves to be an ideal picnic spot among the tourists visiting Manali. Camping and trekking here are preferred activities of the tourists.


Rohtang Pass: Rohtang Pass is a high altitude mountain path which connects Kullu to Spiti and Lahaul. Known for offering breathtaking views of glaciers and imposing mountains, Rohtang Pass is hardly missed by the tourists visiting Manali. Rohtang Pass also serves to be a gateway to other nearby places of attraction. Abounded with several picturesque locations, Rohtang Pass is visited by a number of tourists.



Hadimba Temple: It is a prominent place of worship located just 2km away from the center of Manali town. The temple is dedicated to goddess Hadimba which once served as the patron deity of Kullu Kings. Built in the year 1553, Hadimba Temple is four-storied wooden structure. Beautiful carving of images of main deity is a striking feature of the temple. The temple is perched deep in the dense lush green forest and is visited a large number devotees and tourists as well.

 Besides these places of attraction, Manali offers many other places of interest in and around it. Pandoha Dam at Kullu, Solang Valley and the Great Himalayan National Park at Kullu are other much visited tourist places near Manali.

Tourist places in Kullu



Kullu is the headquarter town of Kullu district. Charming Kullu valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh with the magnificent backdrop of Himalayan Mountains is dotted with numerous picturesque natural locations. Famous for its Dussera celebration, Kullu is home to many prominent temples which serve to be the key attractions of the region.

Raghunathji Temple: It is important pilgrim toruist destination of Himachal Pradesh which constructed in 1651.The temple is famous for its seven-day long celebration of Dussera festival. The temple is dedicated to Raghunathji which is the chief guardian deity of entire Kullu valley. Built in the year 1650, Raghunathji Temple presents a beautiful blend of Pyramidal and Pahari architectural style. Perched on the hillock, the temple also offers visitors picturesque views of Kullu valley.

Himalayan National Park: Famous among the wildlife freak tourists, the Great Himalayan National Park is a major attraction in Kullu region in the state of Himachal Pradesh. It also known as Jawaharlal Great Himalayan National Pak, the park is home to numerous species of animals and birds. Spread over a wide area, the park houses deer, brown beers, black bears, Himalayan Tahr, etc. One can also spot snow leopard which is one of the most  endangered  animal species in the world.

Bijli Mahadev Temple: Situated at the top of a majestic hill having 2450 m elevation from the sea level, Bijli Mahadev temple is prominent place of worship in Kullu valley. It offers the magnificent views of lush green valley below. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Bijli Mahadev temple presents a wonderful Pahari style of architecture. Large number of pine trees perched along the uphill way to the holy shrine makes the journey of the pilgrim and tourists a pleasant and unforgettable experience.

Along with these places of interest, Kullu Valley’s main attraction lies in its exquisite nature which is filled with lush green hills, valleys, lakes, dense forest dotted with pine and deodar trees, rivers, scenic landscapes etc. Adventure tourism in Kullu is also gaining popularity among the tourists. River rafting and trekking are the preferred tourists activities of the tourists visiting Kullu.

Tourist places in Kozhikode

Kozhikode is a beautiful city of God’s Own Country- Kerala. Located in Malabar Coast, Kozhikode, otherwise known as Calicut, is famous for its pristine beaches and other several tourist attractions :


Kappad Beach: Famous for its historical significance, Kappad beach is located just 16 away from Kozhikode railway station. It is the same place where the famous world explorer Vasco Da Gama set his first feet on his visit to India way back in 1498.  To commemorate this historic incidence, a stone memorial has been erected there. Also known as Kapppakkadavu beach, Kappad beach also serves as a perfect retreat from hectic urban life.     
 



Pazhassiraja Museum: It is another place of interest one can visit near Kozhikode, north Kerala and situated just 6 km away from the heart of the city, Pazhassiraja Museum is home to ancient articles like coins, models of temples, antique bronzes, mural paintings and other artifacts. One can also visit beautiful art gallery located adjacent to Pazhassiraja Museum. The gallery displays the fine collection of paintings made by many renowned artists of Kerala.




Kadalundi: It is a bird sanctuary located in the Malappuram district of the state of Kerala and at the meeting place of Kadalundi River into Arabian Sea. Spread over wide area, Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is home to over 100 domestic bird species. About 60 species migratory birds can also be spotted here. It is situated near the sea shore which is still unexploited area and thus serves to be perfect spot for the tourist to relax and unwind. 



Tali Temple: Tali Temple is a prominent place of religious significance in Kozhikode. It is an old temple of Lord Shiva and was built during the period of Zamorin rule. On the occasion of Malayalam New Year, the temple witnesses thousand of devotees thronging there from far and wide. Dolphin’s Point, Beypore, Elathur and Mananchira Square are other places of attraction to be visited around the city of Kozhikode.
