Fair and festival in Surat
Surat is mainly known for its
diamond cutting industry in the world. This commercial capital city of Gujarat
also boasts of rich culture and traditions as other parts of the state. Fairs
and festivals celebrated in Surat present before us cultural distinctiveness of
the region. Along with major national festivals of India like Deepawali,
Dussera and holi, the city of Surat celebrates many other cultural events and
festivals with much fanfare.
Kite Flying Festival in Surat is
major cultural event eagerly awaited by the people of Surat. The event is
organized on the eve of Makar Sakranti. On the occasions of the festival the
blue sky of Surat is filled with thousands of colorful kites. A number of
tourists from different parts of the country and from abroad as well throng
there to participate in this charming and colorful event. A similar kind of
kite festival is organized in another city of Gujarat- Ahmadabad.
Dan Darbar is an annual fair
organized in Surat few days before the festival of Holi. It is a traditional
fair being held every year from the time of Raja and Maharajas of the region.
The fair is popularly known as Jamabandi Darbar. It displays the rich cultures
and traditions of the region. Tribal people in their traditional attire gather
there to showcase their traditional crafts, artifacts and other work of
arts. Gujarat is known for its
celebration of Navratri festival. Surat, being a part of Gujarat, also
celebrates the festival with great enthusiasm.

Tourist Places in Kanyakumari
Kanyakumari
Places of attraction: Located at the edge of Indian
southern peninsula, Kanyakumari is a major pilgrimage town in the state of
Tamil Nadu. Being a point of intersection of Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and
Arabian Sea, Kanyakumari serves to be a major tourist destination offering
several places of interest to the tourists.
Kanyakumari Temple: Also known as Kumari Amman,
Kanyakumari Temple is prominent place of worship in Kanyakumari. The temple is
dedicated to Goddess Durga and is one of the Shakti Peethas. Situated on the
shores of the sea, the temple is visited by a number of devotees and the
tourists alike. The name of Kanyakumari town is said to have derived from this
temple.
Vivekananda Rock
Memorial: It serves
to be a major place of attraction in Kanyakumari. It is perched on a rock just
500m off the main Island. Vivekananda Rock memorial was constructed in 1970 to
commemorate the visit of Swami Vivekananda to the place in 1892. When Swami
Vivekananda visited Kanyakumari in 1892, he swam to the rock and spent all the
night meditating there. The memorial contains a statue of Vivekananda and a
meditation hall.
Gandhi Memorial: Gandhi memorial is another place of
interest in Kanyakumari. The memorial was inaugurated on the birth anniversary
of Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October in 1956. It is here that the ashes
of Mahatma Gandhi were kept before immersion. The central height of the monument
is 79 feet which represents the age of Mahatma Gandhi at the time of his death.
Apart from above mentioned places, Kanyakumari also houses
many other places of interest in and around it. Courtallam Falls, Thiruvalluvar
Statue, Keeriparai and Lord Subramanyam Temple are some of the prominent places
of attraction to be visited in and around Kanyakumari.

The southernmost part of India, Kanyakumari is famous tourist
destination of Tamil Nadu state. Popularly known as Cape Comorin, Kanyakumari
happens to be the place where Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean meet.
This meeting point is considered to be sacred one and hence a large number of
people throng there on special occasions to take the holy dip. Being an ancient
city and a part of Tamil Nadu state, Kanyakumari celebrates all major festivals
celebrated in other parts of the state. Besides, the city is also known for its
Cape festival organized and celebrated with great enthusiasm every year.
Cape Festival of Kanyakumari is celebrated with much fanfare.
The festival comes in the month of October and witnesses a large number of visitors
thronging there from far and wide. Several cultural and entertainment programs
are organized during this three day long festival. Roman Catholic Church in Kanyakumari is known
for hosting holy annual festival.
Navratri is another major festival celebrated with great
enthusiasm in Kanyakumari. The festival comes in the month of October and lasts
for nine days. Pongal is one of most important festivals celebrated in southern
states of India. The festival is also celebrated on large scale in Kanyakumari.
The festival lasts for four days and witnesses several cultural and religious
events being organized during the celebration of the festival. Karthigai Deepam
is yet another prominent festival celebrated Kanyakumari. This nine day
festival is marked by numerous cultural and religious activities.

Tourist places in Raipur
Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh state, is known for its rich culture and tradition. It is dotted with several places of interest which reflects its distinct culture. Many worth visiting places make Raipur a major tourist destination attracting a number of tourists from different parts of the country.
Mahant Ghasidas Museum: Established by Raja Mahant Ghasidas of Rajnandangaon in the year 1975, Mahant Ghasidas Museum in Raipur serves to be a place where one can have insights of cultural and traditional life tribal people living in the region. It is two storied building with five galleries and several sections based on Archeology, Natural History and Anthropology. The museum has a fine collection of jewelry, crafts, painting, and terracotta belonging to the tribal people of the region.
Doodhdhari Monastery: It is another major attraction of Raipur. The monastery is named after Swami Balbhadra Das who used to take only milk as his food. One can also visit an old temple situated near the monastery. Dedicated to Lord Rama, the temple was built by King Jaitsingh during the 17th century. The temple is known for its fascinating murals. The temple along with the monastery is situated near the bank of an ancient river called Maharajabandh.
Mahamaya Temple: It is a prominent place of worship in Raipur. The temple is situated in old fort area of the city on the bank of river Khaaroon. Dedicated to goddess Mahamaya, the temple is must visit place for Hindus in Raipur. Mahishasura Mardini, Durga, Jagdambe are other names of the deity.

Tourist places in Ooty
Beautiful hill station Ooty, otherwise known as Udhagamandal, is in the state of Tamil Nadu. Popularly referred as the queen of all hill stations, Ooty is famous for exquisite natural surroundings offering several picturesque locations and scenic landscapes. Besides, it offers many places of interest located in and around it.
Botanical Garden: Established in 1847 by Marquis of Tweedale, Botanical Garden is a major attraction in Ooty. This mesmerizing garden is spread over an area of about 22 hectares. It is dotted with several flowering trees, plants, shrubs and beautiful rare colored lilies. The garden is under the care of Horticulture Department of the state government. It hosts an annual summer festival in the month of May. On the occasion of the festival flower and exhibition of rare species of plants are organized there.
Ooty Lake: Ooty Lake is another attraction for the tourists visiting Ooty. Stretched over the length of about 2.75 km, Ooty Lake is manmade lake constructed by John Sullivan during the early 19th century. Surrounding lush green trees add beauty to this serene lake. Boating in the lake is indeed a memorable experience for the tourists.
Rose Garden: Perched in the heart of Ooty town, Rose Garden is yet another prime attraction of the hill town. It has been rewarded as the Garden of Excellence by World Federation of Rose Society in 2006. Spread over an area of 10 acres, the garden is home to about 3600 species of rose. Nila Maidan is the place from where one can have an entire look of this beautiful garden.

Tourist Places in Vadodara
Vadodara Tourist attractions: Formerly known as Baroda, Vadodara
is the third largest city in the state of Gujarat. This historical city of
Vadodara is perched on bank of river Vishwamitri and is known for housing many
places of interest in and around it.
Kirti Mandir: It is located to the north of a
statue of Prince Fatehsinhrao Gaekwad. This E shaped monument was constructed
to commemorate the cremation of member of Gaekwad family. This massive
structure contains domes, balconies, terraces and central Shikhara with 33 m
height. It was built by Maharaja Sayaji Gaekwad. Kirti Mandir houses several
statues and photographs of member of the royal family.
Baroda Museum: Built in the year 1894, Baroda
Museum in Vadodara is among few most famous museums of India. Collection of
original paintings of British painter Turner is the prize possession of the
museum. A huge skeleton of a blue whale and Egyptian Mummy are other major
highlights of the museum. Akota bronzes of the 5th century, a fine
collection Mughal miniatures and a gallery of Tibetan arts can also been seen
in Baroda Museum.
Khanderao Market: It is an impressive historical
structure built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad. It was built in 1905 and later
on was handed over to municipality of Vadodara to mark the silver jubilee of
the administration of Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad. The architecture of the
entrance of this structure draws similarity with those of the gate of Dhaboi
Fort.
Besides, the city of Vadodara is home to many other places of
attraction. Laxmi Vilas Palace, Makarpura Palace, Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum,
Nazarbaug palace and Sayaji Baug are some of them.

At the very entrance of the museum, one can find a massive statue of Maharana Ranjit Singh perched in the throne. Tanks, anti-aircraft gun, car scout and old Sukhoi fighter aircraft can be found placed near the statue. Punjab Agriculture University Museum, Pir-I-Dastgir Shrine, Bhiwanwali Masjid and Gurudwara Nanaksar Jagroan are other places of interest and worship to be visited in and around the city of Ludhiana.
