Vridhachalam is a
town in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu state. It is a railway junction which
belongs to Tiruchirapalli Junction of Southern Railway Zone. It is perched on
Cuddalore-Tiruchirapalli rail route and is served with several trains. VRI is
the station code of Vridhachalam Jn. National highway no 532 (NH-532) and
several other state highways also connect the town to other parts of Tamil Nadu
and rest of the country.
Palamalai Nadhar
Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is an important place of worship in
Vridhachalam. Thiru Kolanjiyappar Temple situated just 5 km away from
Vridhachalam is another prominent religious site in the region. It is a famous
temple of Lord Muruga and is frequented by a number of devotees round the year.
Major places of interest and towns which are easily accessible from Vridhachalam
are Cuddalore, Chidambaram, Seerkazhi and Thirumanacheri. Trains which pass
through Vridhachalam Railway Junction include Chennai Egmore-Salem Exp,
Madurai-Kurla Exp, Kanyakumari-Chennai Egmore Exp, Mangalore-Pondicherry Exp,
Trivandrum –Chennai Egmore Exp, etc.
