Guwahati, formerly known as Pragjyotishpura meaning the light of the east, is a city of Indian state of Assam. The city which once served as the capital of Assam is known as the gateway to north east region of India. Guwahati is also famous for several places of tourists and religious significance attracting a number of tourists and devotees round the year. 

Umananda temple :

Umananda temple is a prominent temple of Guwahati. Built in the year 1664, the temple is situated at Peacock Island in the middle of Brahmaputra. It is believed to be the same place where Lord Shiva burned Kamdeva by using his third eye. On the occasion of the Shivratri thousand of devotees throng there from different parts of Assam state.





Kamakhaya Temple :

Kamakhaya Temple situated near the Guwahati is another major place of worship visited by a number of devotees and the tourist as well. The temple is perched on top of Nilachal hill located just 7 km away from Guwahati city. The temple was constructed during 10th century.


The group of Navagraha temple :

The group of Navagraha temple is another major prominent religious place in Assam state. Located on a nearby hill called as Chitrasal Hill, Navagraha Temples are dedicated to nine celestial bodies. Although the temples are dedicated to planets, the temples are enshrined with Shivlingas. The place also serves to be a perfect picnic spot in Guwahati.



Assam State Museum :

Assam State Museum located at Dighali Pukhuri is a worth visiting place near Guwahati. The museum has a fine collection of ancient articles, equipments, artifacts, etc. River Cruise at Brahmaputra River is an emerging attraction of Guwahati. Cruising is rapidly becoming a preferred activity of the tourists visiting Guwahati. 


How to reach Guwahati


By Air:

Guwahati has it's own airport known as Lokpriya Gopinath Bodoloi International Airport, also know as Guwahati International Airport.
The airport is located 20 km from the city. From airport you can pre book your transfer taxi online for an easy hassle free journey.


By Road:

Guwahati is well connected to the other nearby cities and state through bus services. You can also hire a chauffeur driven car from your source cities to Guwahati.

By Rail:

Guwahati has it's own railway station which is located in the heart of city. There are many trains running between Guwahati to other parts of the country.
There are few other stations in and around the city accessible area. Narengi, New Guwahati, Azara, Amingaon, Changsari, Digaru and Agthori. You can check availability of the train and reserve you seat at IRCTC website.
