Pandharpur - a pilgrimage site in Maharashtra, India

Pandharpur is a major pilgrimage city in the state of Maharashtra, India.  It is located in Solapur district of the state. On occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi it attracts more than half a million pilgrims from across the state and other parts of the country. Pandharpur is also known as Pandhari. The temple of Vithoba is the most prominent temple in Pandharpur. It is located on the bank of the Bhima river. The river is also called as 'Chandrabhaga' river. Vitthal, Pandurang and Pandharinath are other names of the deity of the temple. He is believed to be a form of Lord Krishna who himself was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are idols of Vitthal and his wife Rukhmini also known as Rakhumai. Pandharpur temple has 11th century scripture. The temple is spread over a wide area and has 6 gates with eastern gate named Namdev gate.    
  
  There are other places of religious significance in and around it. Temple of Goddess Tuljabhavani at Tuljapur is one of them. Pandharpur to Tuljapur distance by road is approx. 111 km. Shri Shetra Akkalkot and temple of lord Dattatray at Gagapur are other place of religious importance near Pandharpur.

How to reach:


By road: 


Pandharpur is well connected by road to other parts of the state and the country. Many state run buses and other private vehicles are available from Solapur, Pune, Mumbai and other cities and towns of the state.

By train:

The city of Solapur is just 74 km away from it while it is about 210 km away from Pune. Kuruwadi serves as the nearest railway head to Pandharpur is just 52 km away from it. Solapur is also the major rail head and is well linked by many trains to other cities and towns of the state.  Considering of heavy rush on the occasion, every year railway department start special train for Pandharpur from almost every major city in the state like Amravati to pandharur, Khamgaon to Pandharpur, Mumbai to Pandharpur, Nagpur to Pandharpur 


By air: 

Pune airport at the distance of 204 kms away from Pandharpur is the nearest airbase. There are many of direct flights from other major cities of India. There are many of taxi and private buses available to reach Pandharpur but booking a taxi or cab in advance will save your time and money.

Tourist Places in Naldehra

Naldehra is famous tourist place in the state of Himachal Pradesh, India. it is situated at the altitude of 2044 m and is just 22 km away from Shimla, a major tourist spot itself. In fact Naldehra is a part of Shimla region. Naldehra literally means the Abode of king of Snakes. It has a temple dedicated to the main deity Nag, the serpent God. It is famous for housing the oldest nine -hole golf in the country. It is beautiful place for golf course. The place impressed Lord Curzon of Briton so much that he gave his daughter Alexandra the second name Naldehra. Many completions are held on the golf course.   
Shaily Peak and Tattapani :
Shaily Peak and Tattapani are some of other places of interest in Naldehra. Shaily Peaks is covered with lush greenery and offers picturesque views of Naldehra while Tattapani is famous for its Sulphor    water springs. It is situated 56 km away from Shimla and has many temples in its surrounding.


Mahakali Temple :
Mahakali Temple is another place of religious importance near Naldehra. It is situated on the bank of Mahakali Lake. The place is very calm and offers picturesque views of its beautiful surrounding.




Mahunag Temple :
Mahunag Temple is yet another place of worship near Naldehra. The temple is located amid the famous Naldehra Golf Course. It is dedicated to serpent god Ananta Shesha referred in Hindu mythology.
Naldehra is abundant with thick forest containing pine and deodar trees. Horse riding is the best way to explore the beautiful forest which is not possible by other means travelling. Many horses are available at the price of about Rs 300 per hour.

Kogi Mata Temple :
Kogi Mata Temple is much revered place of worship. The temple is located in Kogi village near Naldehra. We can also see a number of traditional houses around the temple. The place is much visited by tourists.    







How to reach:
Many state run buses and other private vehicles connect it to Shimla, Mashobra and other cities and towns of the states and the country. Jubarhatti Airport at Shimla is nearest airbase to Naldehra. The air port is well connected to Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai and other major cities of the country. Kalka railway station is nearest railway head to Naldehra. It is about 112 km from it and well connected to cities and towns of the country.

Lohri - Festival in India


Lohri festival popularly celebrated in North India especially in states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and the nearby areas.
 Lohri is celebrated on the 13th of January marking the end of the winter season. The next day is the first day of their month. The festival coincides with the Hindu festival Makara Sankranti (celebrated on the 14th of January). Many people believe the festival began as a celebration of the eve of the winter solstice. The day begins with children collecting money from houses in the neighborhood. Children go from door to door singing songs in praise of Dulha Bhatti, a famous legendary Rajpoot hero of the Punjab who robbed the rich and helped the poor. On the eve of Lohri people create huge bonfires in the harvested fields and in front of homes after that they gather around bonfires and pray for good year. Popular songs, peanuts and corn puffs are enjoyed near the flames. Sarson da saag and makki di roti is usually served as the main course at a Lohri dinner. Farmers pray to God for good harvest seasons and good financial year on the eve of Lohri.

Tourist Places in Nathdwara

  Nathdwara is a small town in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is situated on Banas River and falls in Rajsamand district of the state. It is a major pilgrimage center where Lord Krishna is worshipped. Literally Nathdwara means doorway to Lord. Here Lord refers the Lord Krishna.

Srinathji Temple :
Nathdwara is popular for its Srinathji Temple. It is the temple of Lord Krishna. The temple contains an idol of Srinathji who is one of the incarnations of Lord Krishna. The temple is built in 117th century. The idol in the temple is of young Krishna with Govardhan Mountain on his hand. The idol is made of single black Marble and fascinates the onlookers.       





Charbhuja Temple :
Charbhuja temple is another prominent place of worship. It is situated in Charbhuja near Nathdwara. The temple is built in beautiful architecture and attracts many devotees throughout the year.





Dwrakadhish :Dwrakadhish is another religious place to be seen around Nathdwara. Eklingi, Sahitya Mandal Library and Sanvaria Seth are other interesting places to be seen in and around Nathdwara.

 Apart from the main attraction of Srinathji temple, the town is also popular for Pichhwai Paintings, milk-made sweets, handmade terracotta and ivory articles. Pichhwai painting is the paintings on large cloth. The paintings mainly depict the incidence related to Lord Krishna.  Nathdwara is also known as Apollo of Mewar. Haweli music of Nathdwara is also famous. It is the devotional music played and sung according to seasons, festivals and the section of the day.
   On the occasion of Janmashtmi and Holi many devotees from far and wide visit the place. Besides, the festival of Annakutta is also celebrated in the town with much pomp and show. The festival of Annakutta is related with Lord Krishna’s lifting the Govardhan Mountain.

How to reach :
 You can get down at Udaipur railway station which is about 52 km away from Nathdwara. From Udaipur you can take state run bus or taxi and reach Nathdwara. Udaipur railway station is well linked to other cities and towns of the Rajasthan state and the country. Many state run buses and other private vehicles are available from Udaipur and other cities and towns of the state. Udaipur also serves as the nearest air base to Nathdwara. The airport of Udaipur is well connected by several flights to other major cities of the country. 

Tourist Places in Patiala

Patiala is a city in Indian state of Punjab. It is the headquarter of the district of the same name. The city is known for its turban (a traditional headgear) Salwar, Juti, Patiala peg etc. 
Quila Mubarak :
Quila Mubarak is located in the city. It is a castle built in 1763 by Baba Ala Singh. Quila Mubarak literally means fortunate castle.  It is located in the heart of the city. It is spread over 10 acres of land and house the main palace Quila Androon which literally means inner fort. The castle also houses a Darbar Hall, Ran Baas and a Guest house. A Darshani Gate and a Shiva temple are situated outside the castle. There are many shops along the street that surrounds the Quila. You can buy here precious ornaments and hand woven fabric. Quila Mubarak was the main residence of Patiala royals. The castle is built in Mughal and Rajasthani architectural styles.
Sheesh Mahal :
Sheesh Mahal is another interesting place in Patiala. The Mahal is a part of old Motibag palace which was built in 9th century. Sheesh Mahal literally means the palace of mirrors. The Mahal houses a large number of frescoes. A lake is also situated in front of the palace and it adds the beauty of it. A bridge called as Lakshman Jhula built across the lake attracts many tourists. You can also visit a museum situated nearby the Palace.  It is the museum which houses the largest collection of medals in the world. The collection was made by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh.

Baradari Garden :
Baradari  Garden is another place of attraction in the city of Patiala. The garden is located at Shernawala gate. The garden was set up during the rule of Maharaja Ranjidera Singh. The garden has many tall trees, Shrubs  and flowers. It also houses the statue of Maharaja Rajindera Singh.



How to reach :-
Patiala is well linked by rail and road to other parts of the state and the country. Patiala railway station is connected by many trains to Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai and many other cities and towns of the state and the country. Many state run buses and other private vehicles are also available from Chandigarh and many other cities and towns of the state of Punjab. Chandigarh serves as the nearest airbase to Patiala. The airport is about 67 km away from it and is well linked to other major cities of the state.
Temperature of the Patiala varies from 5°c to 25°c  in winter while it is between 30°c to 43°c in summer. October to March is the best time to visit the city of Patiala.
