Gifted with beautiful natural surroundings, Kolad is a famous tourist destination in the state of Maharashtra, India. It is a small village in Raigad district of the state. The village is located at the backdrop of majestic Sahyadri hills. Kundalika River is the main attraction of villages as it offers adventurous activities. There are other places of interest around the village. Marathi is widely spoken language in the region. June to March offers the best time to visit Kolad.

Bhira Dam :
Built by Tata Power Company in 1927, Bhira Dam, also known as TataPower House Dam, is worth visiting place with many fascinating water fall nearby. Thrilling activity of water rafting is mainly depended on the water released from this dam. The dam is a part of hydro electric project and electricity produced here is supplied to most industrial areas of Mumbai and Pune.
Dholwal Dam :
Dholwal Dam is another beautiful water reservoir of Koalad. Surrounding lush greeneries makes it popular tourist attraction.
Kunda Buddhist Caves :
Kunda Buddhist Caves is also worth visiting place nearby Kolad.
Sutarwadi Lake :Sutarwadi Lake at Kolad is a beautiful place which offers its visitors wonderful views of sunrise and sunset. It is also the ideal place for bird watchers as it is home to various species of birds.
Tamhini Ghat Waterfalls :
Tamhini Ghat Waterfalls near Kolad is yet another tourist attraction. The Ghat houses many fascinating waterfalls around it. The Ghat has many wonderful views of its lush greeneries to offer to its tourists.
River rafting in Kundalika River is thrilling experience. One needs courage to have this breathtaking experience of 14km long stretch of river rafting lasting about one and half hour.
The festival of Ganesh Chaturathi is celebrated here with much pomp and show. It is ten days’ celebration and many social and cultural programs are organized during the festival.
How to reach :
Kolad railway station is well linked through VT station of Mumbai to other many cities and towns of the state and the country. Mumbai is just 113 km away from Kolad. Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport of Mumbai is nearest airport to Kolad. The airport is well connected other major cities of India and other countries. Many state transport buses and other private vehicles like car and luxury buses are available to reach Kolad from other towns and cities of the state.
