Vijayawada, the land of victory as it literally means, is the third largest city of Andhra Pradesh state. Also known as Bezawada, the city of Vijayawada is perched on the bank of Krishna River. It is home to several places of attractions which draw a number of tourists to the city from different parts the country.
Kondapali fort :
Kondapali fort is a major tourist attraction of Vijayawada located in the Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh,India.Located at the top of a hillock near the city, Kondapali Fort was assumedly built by Prolaya Vema Reddi, the founder of Kondaveedu’s Reddi kingdom during the 14th century. According to some historians, the fort dates back to the 7th century and was built by Krishna Deva Raya. The village Kondapali where this historic structure stands is also famous for its toys popularly known as Kondapali toys.
Undavalli Caves :
Undavalli caves is another place of interest near Vijayawada. These 7th century old caves hold great historical significance. A large statue of Lord Vishnu carved out of a single granite piece is the main highlight of the caves. The caves present the tourists excellent work of rock-cut architecture and sculptures. Take some time out to visit Mogalrajapuram Caves known for several beautiful rock-cut sculptures and architecture.
Victoria Museum :
Another place of interest in Vijayawada is Victoria Museum. The museum is known for its collection of several ancient Andhra Pradesh sculptures, inscriptions, idols, paintings, cutlery, weapons, etc. It also displays the prehistoric stone tools, weapons, metal works, coins, etc. A large granite statue of Lord Buddha is the main attraction of Victoria Museum in Vijayawada. A beautiful white limestone figure of Lord Buddha in standing position can also be seen there.
Bhavani Island, Rajiv Gandhi Park and Gandhi Hill are other places of attraction situated in and around the city of Vijayawada.
