Shivpuri is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the main place of district of Shivpuri.  Earlier it was known as Sipri. It is situated in the Gwalior division of the state. At one time in the history of the region it was the summer capital of Scindias of Gwalior. Forest around Shivpuri was used as hunting ground by Mughal emperors. This dense forest is still there attracting many visitors. Shivpuri also houses Gwalior Forest Product Ltd which was founded 60 years ago. The company manufactures the herbal and phytochemical products. Lush green forest around, pleasant climate, remnants of historic monuments, majestic hill around etc make the city a perfect tourist destination.

Royal tombs of Scindias :

It is situated in decorative Mughal Garden. The monuments of the Scindias are fine specimen of Mughal and Hindu architectural Style.

Karera Bird sanctuary :

Karera Bird sanctuary is another interesting place near Shivpuri. You will find here numerous species of birds. It is an ideal place for bird lovers.  Some wild animals can also be found in the sanctuary.

Madhav National Park :

Take some time out to visit the Madhav National Park which is located near Shivpuri. The national park is spread over an area of 157 sq km and presents the opportunity to watch the wild animals in their natural habitats. The park also houses wide species of birds. How to reach :

 Many state run buses and other private vehicles connect Shivpuri to Jhansi, Gwalior, Delhi, Bhopal and other cities of the state and the country. Jhansi serves as the nearest railhead to Shivpuri. It is about 100 km away from Shivpuri and is well connected Delhi, Mumbai, Agra and other cities and towns of the state and the country.   Gwalior is closest airbase to Shivpuri. It is about 112 km away from Shivpuri and is well linked by regular flights to other major cities of the country.
