Ambala is a city in Indian state of Haryana. It is located on the border between Punjab and Haryana. It is a Municipal Corporation and the headquarters of Ambala district. Ambala consists of two sub areas- Ambala Cantonment and Ambala town. These two areas are 3 km apart from each other. Both Indian military and Indian air force have their presence in Ambala Cantt. Ambala serves to be a main transit point for the travelers to several tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Chhattisgarh. It is believed that the city got its name from Amba Rajput, the founder the city, while some believe that Ambala is named after Bhavani Amba temple located in the city.

Ambala is major market of scientific products. It is sometimes referred to as the city of scientific products. Ambala is hub for the products like microscopes, glass apparatus, laboratory equipments, etc. It produces about 34 percent of the total scientific products in India. Ambala is also a major market of custom-made clothes for men and women. Though Ambala is a transit place for the tourist travelling to neighboring states, the city itself offers several places of interest in and around it.

Places of interest: There are several prominent places of worship located in and around Ambala.

Lakhanpur Sahib Gurudwara :It is a major pilgrimage center in Ambala. It is associated with Guru Gobind Singh. The Gurudwara is located in Lakhanpur village in Ambala district and is frequented by thousands of Sikh devotees from all over the globe.

Gurudwara Manji Sahib :

It is another prominent place of worship in Ambala. It is perched on the national highway no 1, known as Sher Shah Suri Marg. Originally built in the year 1764, Gurudwara Manji Sahib was reconstructed during 1871 to 1911 by Maharaja Hira Singh of Nabha. The place of the Gurudwara was once visited by the sixth Sikh guru, Guru Hargobind Singh. The Gurudwara   has small pond and a well believed to be built during the stay of Guru Hargobind Sing. Badshahi Bag Gurudwara and Sis Ganj Gurudwara are other major pilgrimage places of Sikhs located in Ambala.

Rani Ka Talab :

Apart from the places of religious significance, Ambala also hosts other places of interest like Rani Ka Talab and Planetarium. Rani Ka Talab is historical legacy of the city. This 500 years old pond was constructed by Raja Ranjit Singh of Chhachhrauli. It is located in Ambala Cantt and is under the control of Indian Army. An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is also located on the bank the pond.

Ambala Planetarium :It is one of the oldest planetariums in the country. It was set up in the 1950s. Designed by Pt. Jagannath Sharma, a spearhead in scientific products   industry, Ambala Planetarium attracts tourists’ attention by its magnificent dome structure. Amazing visual appearance of sky at any given latitude is the main highlight of the planetarium.

How to reach: Ambala has good rail and road connectivity. Ambala City Railway Station is located in the center of the city.  It is well connected by several trains to many other parts of India. Ambala is perched on the national highway no 1 (NH-1) connecting Delhi and Amritsar.  State-run buses also connect the city to other parts of Haryana state. Chandigarh (50 km) is the nearest airbase to Ambala.
