Mankapur is a small town located in Gonda district of UttarPradesh state. It is a railway junction which belongs to Lucknow Jn division of
North Eastern Railway Zone. Mankapur Railway Junction is perched on Gonda-Basti
rail route and is served with many trains. Jhilai and Lakhpat Nagar are nearby
railway stations to Mankapur Jn, while Gorakhpur serves to be the nearby major
railhead to it. Mankapur houses one of six manufacturing plants of Indian
Telephone Industry. There are some worth visiting places which are easily
accessible from Mankapur Jn.
Mankapur Jn lies just about 35 km away from Ayodhya, the
birth place of Lord Rama. Mankapur has rail and road connections to the holy
place. Home to a number of temples, Ayodhya is a major pilgrimage destination
in India. Ayodhya also holds great religious significance for the Jains as it
is believed that five of the twenty four Jain Tirthankaras belong to
Ayodhya. Five temples dedicated to them
are located in the town. Sravasti, Basti, Faizabad and Kapilvasti are other
prominent places of interest which can be accessed by rail or road from
Mankapur Jn.
Kushinagar Exp (Kurla (MH)-Gorakhpur), Barauni-Gwalior Mail,
Gorakhpur-Secunderabad Exp, Bangalore-Gorakhpur Exp and many other trains stop
at Mankapur Railway Junction and connect it to other cities of India. State
highway no 9 also runs through the town connecting it to other parts of UttarPradesh.
