Chandil is a small town in Seraikela Kharsawan
district of Jharkhand state. The town is surrounded by lush green hills, rich
vegetation, rivers, stream and several scenic locations. It serves to be the place of first sponge iron
plant in India.Chandil is a
railway junction which comes under South East Central Railway, Adra Jn. Chandil Railway Junction is situated on
Sini-Adra rail route. Besides, National Highways no 32 and 33 (NH-32& 32)
run through the town.
There are several
places of attraction situated around the town of Chandil. Chandil Dam is scenic
place visited by a number of tourists from different parts of Jharkhand
state. It is perched on Subarnarekha
River and is beautiful place for picnicking. A museum located near the dam contains 2000 year old scripts. Another
interesting place near Chandil is Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary which is famous for
elephant and deer. The sanctuary also houses numerous other species of animals
and birds.
Chandil is also
known for several places of worship located around it. Jayada temple is one of
them. It is perched on Ranchi–Tata road near Chandil. Dedicated to Lord Shiva,
Jayada temple serves as a major pilgrimage place in Jharkhand. Sai Baba Temple
is another prominent temple situated near the town of Chandil. This beautiful
temple of Sai Baba attracts a large number of devotees round the year.
Chandil is just
about 32 km away from Jamshedpur, the major industrial city of Jharkhand state.
Several trains passing through Chandil Railway Junction connect Chandil to many
other cities of India. Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand, is just
about 110 km away from Chandil and is the closest airbase to it.
