Bilimora is a small town located in Navasari district of Gujarat
state, India. The town is perched on the banks of river Ambika and is part of Surat Metropolitan Region. Situated
just about 70 km north of Surat, Bilimora serves to be northern most part of
Surat Metropolitan Region. Bilimora is railway junction which falls on
Mumbai-Vadodara rail line. Bilimora Railway Junction comes under Mumbai division
of Western Railway.
Bilimora is famous for its Somnath
Mahadev Mandir. The temple serves to be a prominent place of worship in state
of Gujarat and attract thousands of
devotees throughout the year. Imposing structure of the temple housing a
Swayambhu Linga of Lord Shiva presents the spectacular sight to the beholders. It is the tallest Mahadev temple in south
Gujarat. The temple also hosts a month long annual fair known as Shravan Mela
which witnesses thousands of devotees thronging there from different parts of
Gujarat state and other parts of the country. Shri Gayatri Mandir, Shri Jalaram
Mandir, Swaminarayan Mandir, Shri Ramaji Mandir and Ganga Mata Mandir are other
prominent places of worship located in and around the town of Bilimora.
Several train pass through Bilimora Railway Junction connecting
the town to other cities of India. Bilimora is also well linked by several
state highways to other cities and towns of Gujarat and neighboring state of
Maharashtra. Vadodara airport is the
closest domestic airbase to Bilimora, while Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji
International Airport serves to be nearest major airport to the temple town.
