Jabalpur is an emerging tourist destination in the state of Madhya Pradesh and Jabalpur serves to be a major tourist spot attracting large number of tourists from far and wide. Owing to several places of interest situated in and around it, Many historic and scenic natural places serve to be the main attractions of Jabalpur.
Madan Mahal Fort: It is an ancient fort situated in the western part of Jabalpur city. The fort is perched on a small hilltop having an average elevation of about 550 m from the sea level. The fort is believed to have been built in 1100 AD. It was named after a Gond king Madan Singh, the son of Rani Durgavati. High elevated location of the fort enabled the rulers to keep a watch on invaders and attackers. The fort is currently under the care of Archeological Survey of India.
Sangram Sagar Lake: Situated just 15 km away from the heart of Jabalpur city, Sangram Sagar Lake serves to be a perfect picnic spot in the region. This beautiful and serene lake is perched amidst the lush green surroundings and is an ideal place to spend some quite time away from the tiresome city life. The lake also serves to be a shelter to large number of aquatic creatures. Numerous specious migratory and domestic birds can also be spotted there.
Rani Durgavati Museum: It is a memorial dedicated to Rani (queen) Durgavati who was known for her valor. Built in 1964 to commemorate the sacrifice and martyrdom of the queen, Rani Durgavati Museum is a must visit place in Jabalpur. The museum is known for housing several beautiful artifacts and sculptures. As a tribute to Rani Durgavati, an idol of goddess Durga has been placed in the museum. The museum also contains the photos and artifacts of Mahatma Gandhi. Besides, sandstone idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati can also be seen in the museum.
Dumna Nature Reserve: Spread over an area of about 1058 hectares, Dumna Nature Reserve is an eco-tourist spot in Jabalpur. It is located just 10 km away from heart of the city and is famous among nature lovers. It is an ideal place to have nature walks. Animals like deer chital, wild boars, jackal, etc can be seen in Dumna Nature Reserve. Various species of birds can also be spotted there in great number. Marble Rocks and Mala Devi Temple are other places of attraction to be visited in Jabalpur.
