Jamnagar earlier known as Nawanagar
is a prominent city in the state of Gujarat, India. Gujarat is famous for its
vibrant culture, traditions and festivals. Jamnagar being a part of the state
also celebrates several festivals which provide the occasions to the visitors
to have glimpses in to its rich culture, traditional customs, rituals etc.
Along with the major national festivals like Diwali, Dussera, holi etc Jamnagarcelebrates other major festival which is marked by their unique and fascinating
style of celebrations.
Navratri
is one of the most charming festivals in Jamnagar. The festival is celebrated
for nine days with great fanfare. Celebration of the festival witnesses the
people especially young boys and girls of Jamnagar coming together and
performing beautiful Ras dance in Garba. Makar Sankranti is another important
festival celebrated on 14th January every year. The festival marks
the cosmological event when the Sun enters into the axis of Capricorn. The
festival is also famous for kite flying and here you will found many people
from young to elderly ones enjoying the event of flying colorful kites in the
blue sky.
Janmashtami is another major festival
celebrated in Jamnagar in grand way. The festival is celebrated to mark the
birth anniversary of lord Krishna. The festival falls on the 23rd
day of Sravana month of Indian calendar. On the occasion of the festival fairs
are also held at various places including Jamnagar and Dwaraka in Jamnagar
district.
