Sirhind-Fategarh, often simply called as Sirhind, is a city in Fategarh Sahib district of the Indian state of Punjab. Sirhind is served with a railway junction which comes under Ambala Cant Jn of Northern Railway Zone. It is perched on Ambala-Ludhiana rail route and is served with many trains. SIR is the station code of Sirhind Jn. Sirhind is the place where 7 and 9 years old sons of Guru Gobind Singh (the tenth guru of the Sikhs) were entombed alive by Mughal Governor of Sirhind, Wazir Khan. There are several places of interest one can easily access from Sirhind. Patiala, Chandigarh, Fategarh-Sahib, and Rupnagar are some of them.
Trains which pass through Sirhind Railway Junction include, Jhelum Exp (Pune-Jammu Tawi), Delhi-Amritsar Exp, Amritsar-Nanded Exp, Kolkata-Jammu Tawi Exp, Howrah-Amritsar Exp, Delhi-Pathankot Exp, Dhanbad-Firozpur Exp, Dehradun-Amritsar Exp, Katihar-Amritsar Exp, Ambala-Amritsar Exp, etc. Sirhind is also perched on the national highway no 1 (NH-1) connecting Delhi and Atari in Punjab near the Indo-Park border. Chandigarh which is just about 45 km away from Sirhind serves as the closest airbase to it.
