Tourist Places in Bilaspur


Bilaspur is second largest city of state of Chhattisgarh, India. Known for its aromatic Doobraj rice and handloom woven soft Kosa saris, Bilaspur also houses many places worth visiting. The city is situated at 111 km south of   the state capital Raipur. Chhattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur makes the city be known as ‘’Nyaydhani’’ (place of justice) of the state.  It has also become a major center of education as students from other parts of the state come there for medical and engineering exams. Chhattisgarhi and Hindi are widely spoken languages. Its weather is pleasant during winter and it is very hot and dry during the summer. The best time to visit Bilaspur is from October to March, though it can be visited any time of the year to enjoy the diversity of culture which is very different from other parts of the country.

Places of interest: Bilaspur is home to many places of interest in and around it.

Giraudhpuri :
Giraudhpuri is a religious place for the Satnami, the followers of Satnami Panth. Sirpur and Malhar are historically significant places as they were visited by Chinese historian Xuanzang.

Tala :
Tala is another famous place for Rudra Shiva and it is about 20km away from Bilaspur. Other important temples of Bilaspur include Lord Shiva temple at Pali, Lord Rama temple, Rani Sati temple etc. Some historic places include Singhpur Caves with pre-historic paintings and Bhoramadeb.

Achanakmar Wild life Sanctuary :
The city is also famous for its wildlife. It is known for having densest forest in the country. Achanakmar Wild life Sanctuary is famous for housing different kind of animals. Ghonagapani Dam, situated at the entry of Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary, offers its visitors panoramic views. Guest houses are situated beyond the sanctuary and can be booked with Government officials. Guest houses are well arranged. Khutaghat, located at just 55k away, has a dam and reservoir. Beautifully located Hill Top Rest House offers its visitors wonderful views of vast expanse of blue water of the reservoir.
 Other places of interest include Vivekanand Uddyaan (a city park), Kaanan Pindary zoo, Ramkrishna Ashram etc.

How to get there: Air, rail and road connect the city to other parts of the state and the country.  Bilaspur Airport is located at Chakabhatta which is just 10km away from center of the city. But it has not any regular flights from airliners. Nearest airport is at Raipur which is about 110 km away and it has regular flights from Delhi, Nagpur, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bhopal and other major cities of the country. Bilaspur is Zonal Head Office of South East Central Railway and well connected to other many parts of the country. Many state run buses and private luxury buses connect the city to other cities and towns of the state.

Other details : The city of Bilaspur celebrates all major festivals of India. Local festival in which they perform colorful Route Dance is celebrated in the month of November.
