Tourist places in Madurai


Madurai is a prominent place of Hindu pilgrimage. It is famous for temples built by Pandyan and Madurai Nayak kings. Temples are built in Dravidian style of architecture. Madurai is one of the largest cities of Tamil Nadu state. Madurai is also one of the antique cities of India. Madurai is known for its traditional rubber industries and it produces automobile rubber components in great quantity.
What to see: The city of Madurai offers its tourists and pilgrims a number of historical monuments and ancient temples. The city is filled with a number of tourist spots and it attracts tourist all over the world. There are many artistic temples that speak about the skill of the artists of those days. 

Places to visit :
There are many places of worships in Madurai. Most of them are of historical importance and are also a pilgrimage centre for the Hindu people. These places includes Madurai Meenakshi temple, Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam, Azagar Kovil etc. 
 Madurai city has other places of important including Gandhi Museum, Thirumalai Nayak Palace. Apart from these places the city offers its tourist many artistic ancient monuments and temples.
There are other places around the city worth visiting. These places include Kodaiknal, Palani, Thekkady, Sivakasi, Dindigul, Rajapalayan etc.
Shopping: There are number of good book stores as well as shops of garments and saris available in Madurai.
Tamil Nadu also celebrates many festivals of which Pongal is the most important. Pongle is also celebrated in Madurai on large scale. Other festivals which are celebrated in Madurai include Float Festival, Chithirai Festivala and Avani Moolam.

How to get there: 
Madurai is well connected to other major cities and towns of Tamil Nadu and rest of the country by trains, planes, buses etc.

 By planes: Airport is just 10km away from the Madurai city. There are daily flights from Chennai, Banglore, Coimbator and Truchi
  
 By trains: Madurai is directly connected to Chennai and Tirunelveli by rail and it is also a important railway junction of southern Railway.
 By buses:  One can also get here by buses run by the state government as well as by private luxury buses from major cities and towns of the rest of Tamil Nadu state.
