Guntakal is a town in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh state. It is just about 53 km away from Bellary in Karnataka. Guntakal is a major railway junction of South Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways. The town of Guntakal lies just about 85 away from Anantapur, the headquarters of Anantapur district. It is home to some prominent places of worship which draws number of devotees from different parts of Andhra Pradesh state.
Lord Anjaneya Swami Temple near Guntakal is a major pilgrimage spot in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is also known as Nettikanti Anjaneya Swami Temple and is located at Kasapuram just 4 km away from Guntakal railway station. The temple witnesses thousands of devotees thronging there from across the state and other parts of the country as well. Jambudweepachakra, a prominent Jain pilgrimage site, is located just about 6 km away from Guntakal railway station. It attracts large number Jain devotees from different parts the country. Guntakal also hosts an old church called Our Lady of Health. Built in 1880, the church presents a masterpiece of architectural style.
Guntakal Railway Junction is served with many trains. It is connected by rail to Mumbai, Delhi, Howrah, Bangalore, Chennai, Goa, Vasco da Gama and many other parts of country. Nearby cities which are connected by rail to Guntakal Jn includes Bellary (Karnataka), Anantapur, Kadappa, Kurnool etc. Guntakal is also perched on national highway no 67 (NH-67). Bangalore International Airport serves to the closest major airbase to Guntakal.
