Azimganj
Azimganj along with its twin town Jiaganj is a municipality in
Murshidabad district of West Bengal state. River Bhagirathi separate these twin
towns. Azimganj is situated on right bank of the river and Jiaganj on the left. Azimganj is an old and historic city of
Nawabs. It is railway junction which comes under Eastern Railway, Howrah Jn.
Azimganj town is home to several Jain temples
which attracts a number of Jain devotees from different parts of the country.
Chintaman Parasanath temple, the temple of Sri Neminath Swami, Gaudi
Parshwanath, and the temple of Padmaprabhu are some of prominent Jain temlpe
frequented by large number pilgrims round the year.
Murshidabad situated just about 26 km away from Azimganj is known for several places
of attraction. It is also the
headquarters Murshidabad district. Hazarduari
palace, Katra Mosque, Kathgola etc are some prominent attractions of Murshidabad.
Pakur and Suri other tourist destinations located around the town of Azimganj.
Azimganj Railway Station is connected by several trains to many other parts of West Bengal and
the rest part of the country. The town of Azimganj is also well
connected by road to other parts of the state. Kolkata’s Subhash Chandra Bose
International Airport is the nearest major airport to Azimganj.
