Tourist Places In Ahmedabad


Ahmedabad is the biggest city in the state of Gujarat, India.  Known for its textile industry, Ahmedabad is sometimes called as Manchester of the East. The city is perched on the bank of Sabarmati River and is home to several places of tourist and religious importance.

                                                      Sabarmati Ashram :
Sabarmati Ashram is the key attraction of Ahmedabad. Located on the bank of Sabarmati River, the ashram is related with the life of Mahatma Gandhi and the freedom struggle of India. It was set up in the year 1915 and was the home to Mahatma Gandhi till the year 1930. It is from here that Gandhiji gave message to the Indian masses to raise their voice against British rule.  In Ashram there is now a beautiful light and sound system giving us the in depth knowledge Mahatma Gandhi’s life.

                                                      Akshardham temple :
In the entire state of Gujarat Akshardham temple is one of the largest and most prominent temple. Located just 30 km away from Ahmedabad. This magnificent structure of the temple presents us the richness of Indian culture and its architecture. Beautifully carved pink sandstones give a fascinating look to the temple. Built in the year 1992, Akshardham temple is dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan.



                                                      Kankaria Lake :
Kankaria Lake is another main attraction of the city of Ahmedabad. Situated in the south east part of the city, Kankaria Lake is an artificial lake constructed by Sultan Qutub-ud-din in 1451 AD. This old lake was the bathing Ghat of Sulthans and their queens. Nagina Wadi, a beautiful garden situated there is added attraction of the place. Boating facility provided at the lake is another interesting feature of this place.  


                                                      
                                                      Hathisingh Jain Temple :
Beautiful structural designs and White Marble temple build by a rich Jain merchant in 1850 dedicated to the 15th 'Jain Tirthankar'-"Dharmnath"





                                                 
                                                       Sidi Sayed Mosque :
Famous shrine of the Muslim community in Ahmedabad.A perfect example for the Indo-Sarcenic style and magnificent carvings and designs of jhali windows are tourist attractions.This mosque was the last mosque that was built in Gujarat by the Sultanate(independent kingdom established in the state in 15th century)



Apart from above mentioned places, Ahmedabad is home to many other places of interest worth a visit. Teen Darwaza, Bhadra Fort and Kamala Nehru Zoo are some of them.
